03/08/2017 – The issue with not being able to download Office for Windows and Apple has been resolved.

As part of the EVSC’s licensing agreement with Microsoft, all EVSC staff members can now download and install Microsoft Office 2016 for FREE to their personal devices (Windows & Apple Computers).

PLEASE NOTE: This is for personal devices only.  Staff should not upgrade ANY software on EVSC issued computers.

Is this different than the program I used to buy Office last year at a discount?

Last year EVSC’s licensing agreement gave staff discounts on purchasing Microsoft software through a special purchasing portal website.  That agreement is now null and void. If you purchased software under that program, you can still continue to use for no additional charge.

If you would like to download the new version of Office, proceed to the next step below.

How to Download Microsoft Office for Home Use

STEP 1 Go to https://portal.office.com/OLS/MySoftware.aspx.

STEP 2 – Log in to the website using your EVSC email address @evsc.k12.in.us and password.

Computer Specific Directions

Click your computer type to view next steps.

Step 3 – On the Office page, go to the version of Office you want to install.

Step 4 – Select a Language, and accept the default to install 32-bit, or select Advanced and choose 64-bit from the drop-down list. If you have Windows 10, you should choose to install the 64-bit version.

If you’re not sure which version to install, see Choose the 64-bit or 32-bit version of Office 2016.

Step 5 – Select Install.

Step 6 – Depending on your browser, go to the install pop-up that appears and click Run (in Internet Explorer), Setup (in Chrome), or Save File (in Firefox).

If you’re using Edge, first click SAVE, and then click RUN.

""

Step 9 – Start using an Office application right away by opening any app such as Word or Excel. In most cases, Office is activated once you start an application and after you agree to the License terms by clicking Accept.

Step 3 – On the Office page page, under Install Office 2016 for Mac, select Install to begin downloading the installer package.

Step 4 – Once the download has completed, open Finder, go to Downloads, and double-click Microsoft_Office_2016_Installer.pkg. (The name might vary slightly.)

TIP: If you see an error that says the Microsoft_Office_2016_Installer.pkg can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer, wait 10 seconds and then try double-clicking the installer package again. If you’re stuck at the Verifying…. progress bar, close or cancel the progress bar and try again.

Step 5 – On the first installation screen, select Continue to begin the installation process.

Step 6 – Review the software license agreement, and then click Continue.

Step 7 – Select Agree to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.

Step 8 – Review the disk space requirements, and then click Install.

Step 9 – Enter your Mac login password, if prompted, and then click Install Software. (This is the password that you use to log in to your Mac.)

Step 10 – The software begins to install. Click Close when the installation is finished. If Office installation fails, see What to try if you can’t install or activate Office 2016 for Mac using Office 365 for business.

Activate the Software

Step 1 – Click the Launchpad icon in the Dock to display all of your apps.

Step 2 – Click the Microsoft Word icon in the Launchpad.

Step 3 – The What’s New window opens automatically when you launch Word. Click Get Started to start activating. If you need help activating Office, see Activate Office 2016 for Mac. If Office activation fails, see What to try if you can’t install or activate Office 2016 for Mac using Office 365 for business.

  1. Jerrad,
On my school issued Think Pad, Office is not activated and most features are disabled. Any ideas on how to activate and get the programs running again?
    Thanks,
    Emma

    • Hi Emma! Try activating your Office by using your work email address and password. If @evsck12.com doesn’t work, try using the address ending @evsc.k12.in.us. Same password of course.

        • I just tried logging into the Microsoft Office Portal website and can’t get the website to load. Don’t know if it’s an issue with Microsoft or our network. Take your ThinkPad home this evening and try activating it there. Let us know if you were successful or not.
