Kim Brand is a cofounder of 3D Parts Mfg, LLC, the largest additive manufacturing company in Indianapolis operating $1.5M of commercial/industrial 3D printing equipment. He is also the President of 1st Maker Space, LLC a maker space resource for educators with experience in designing, equipping and operating makerspaces in schools. 1st Maker Space’s mission is to put advanced manufacturing equipment like 3D printers, laser cutters and micro controllers in schools to promote hands-on learning, critical thinking and problem solving. Studies have shown that connecting formal and informal learning leads to more engaged, creative and successful students. Today, a maker space is like a 21st Century ‘shop class.’ Kim is a life-long resident of Indianapolis. He has founded over a dozen companies, among them Computer Experts, Inc. an IT consulting/service business and Server Partners, LLC a data safety and security company. He is on the board of EmployIndy, on the advisory board of the Salvation Army of Central Indiana and volunteers for Meals on Wheels. He is a life-long entrepreneur and volunteers for Business Ownership Initiative, a business unit of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce that assists startups. He is member of the Indianapolis Rotary Club and an adjunct professor of Informatics at IUPUI’s School of Informatics and Computing.
